Manic Monday Recipe~ Meatloaf with My Grandma's Special Sauce Topping

This is one of those recipes that everyone remembers my grandma making.  She would use the traditional Quaker Oats Meatloaf recipe, but would add a special sauce topping to make it extra delicious.  Here's her recipe.

Ingredients

Meatloaf

1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef or turkey
3/4 cup Quaker® Oats(quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
3/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup ketchup
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Topping
¼ C. ketchup
¼ tsp. dry mustard
2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

Directions:

Heat oven to 350°F.

Combine all ingredients in large bowl; mix lightly but thoroughly.

Shape meatloaf mixture into 10x6-inch loaf on rack of broiler pan.

Mix topping ingredients and spread over uncooked loaf.

Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until meatloaf reaches 160°F for beef or 170°F for turkey. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.

Then enjoy!

Next week, I'll share my favorite healthy and delicious broccoli recipe.  No butter or cheese required!

  7. This is an excellent recipe, my wife and I doll it up a little though. We are lucky enough to have delicious wild mushrooms around us and right now the Chanterelles are popping up so we add about a half cup of them chopped. Our topping is my home made gourmet BBQ sauce (Ol'Hippie) and we cook it in our wood fired smoker....Delicious!
